"Only Jenrick has the conviction to pull us out of ECHR...
... Popular Conservatives back the Newark MP for his willingness to make ‘bold decisions’"
Daily Telegraph: 16th October 2024: Telegraph reports on PopCon's naming Robert Jenrick as its' preferred leadership candidate
"...The Popular Conservatives (PopCon), a grassroots grouping within the party, said Mr Jenrick showed a willingness to make “bold decisions” and win over supporters of Reform UK... “He has laid out a clear policy plan, displayed a coherent understanding of what has gone wrong for the party in recent years, has committed to major democratic reform of the party itself and is very well placed to win over supporters who are presently attracted to Reform UK,” Mr Littlewood said... “He has shown he is willing to make bold decisions – particularly highlighted by his determination to leave the ECHR.
The endorsement will raise the salience of the debate around leaving the ECHR, which only Mr Jenrick has committed to doing. When asked if they thought the Conservatives should commit to leaving the ECHR and repealing the Human Rights Act, 86.1 per cent of PopCon members surveyed said they either strongly agreed or agreed...
Writing in The Telegraph... Mr Littlewood said he was “completely persuaded” that Mr Jenrick’s political positioning was authentic rather than tactical... “I am completely persuaded that Robert’s political thinking has been born of real experience – not of crafty political positioning. “He took the step of resigning from the last government because he learnt and saw – from inside the beast of the administration — that its approach to immigration could not work. This was not confected – it was true conviction,” the Liz Truss ally wrote.
