PopConversations is a series of online conversations with leading figures who are shaping UK conservative thinking.

On Monday 16th December at 7pm, PopCon Director, Mark Littlewood, was joined by The Rt. Hon Sir John Redwood, former policy advisor to Margaret Thatcher, Cabinet Minister and renowned thinker on the right of British politics.

The Conservative Party suffered an historic loss in July but has already returned to a slim lead in the polls: with 14 years in opposition, Labour failed to put together either a strong philosophy or compelling policy platform. The Tories need to learn from this and bring together the best minds to develop a bold, values-based vision for the future of our country. As a Fellow of All Souls, an author of numerous books on political thought and policy and a reputation for making arguments with logic over passion, few could have greater insight than John Redwood into where Conservatives should be in order to save our country from the grip of socialism.

Mark asked John for this thoughts on why the Tories lost the last election, how to regain the confidence of voters, where he sees the need for reform of our institutions and what he believes the Tories need to change in order to win the next election.

Sir John was also questioned by our online audience on the day.
