PopConversations is a series of online conversations with leading figures who are shaping UK conservative thinking.

On Monday June 16th at 7pm Mark Littlewood will be joined by Lee Anderson MP. Lee has been one of the most outspoken MPs in Parliament. Starting life as a coal miner he was a Labour councillor in his local area of Ashfield from 2015 until his suspension in 2018, after which he joined the Conservative Party, being elected as the Tory MP in the Boris landslide of 2019.

In March 2024 Lee defected to Reform UK in March 2024 after having the Conservative whip suspended due to controversial remarks about Sadiq Khan and Keir Starmer. He became Reform UK's first MP and was appointed Chief Whip following the 2024 general election.

Known for his outspoken views, Anderson has never held back from holding controversial positions, from advocating the return of the death penalty to scrapping net zero.

Mark will ask Lee about the success of Reform in the local elections, what a Reform government might look like and how the party can remain united with pressures from both left and right. Can it hold its position without coming to some form of agreement with another party? As Reform UK surge in the polls, if it wins the next election, how could it get through the reforms it has pledged given our post-Blair constitutional sclerosis?

Lee Anderson is a man who has the repuation for saying it how he sees it and this will be a revealing insight into how Reform works and what the future of the right holds.
