The state of UK politics and the future of the right

PopConversations is a series of online conversations with leading figures shaping UK conservative thinking.

On Tuesday, 13th January at 7pm Popular Conservatism’s Director, Mark Littlewood, was in conversation with Jonathan Gullis, former Conservative MP who recently defected to Reform UK.

Jonathan served as MP for Stoke-on-Trent North from 2019 to 2024, was appointed Minister for School Standards in 2022 and in 2024 became a Deputy Chairman of the Conservative Party.

A former state secondary school teacher and union rep, Jonathan has since become a Senior Fellow at the Centre for Social Justice, focusing on technical education.

In December Jonathan left the Conservative Party to join Reform UK.

In this timely and well attended discussion, Mark explored Jonathan's reasons for switching parties, the state of British politics, and the future of the right in Britain.
