THIS EVENT HAS ENDED: WATCH RECORDING HERE

PopConversations is a series of online conversations with leading figures who are shaping UK conservative thinking.

On Monday 12th May at 5.30pm, PopCon Director, Mark Littlewood, was joined by Jack Rankin MP.

One of the 2024 intake of new MPs, and PPS to Robert Jenrick in the Shadow Justice team, Jack Rankin has already made a name for himself as a strong proponent of traditional Conservative philosophy.

In his Maiden Speech he outlined his belief in the “rule of law, parliamentary democracy, freedom of speech, property rights, and innocent until proven guilty by a jury of peers, all built on a shared constitutional heritage.”

Entering Parliament with such a diminished Conservative presence, Mark asked Jack about his experience of being in opposition and the state of the Parliamentary Tory Party under Kemi Badenoch’s leadership, what was needed to get it back on track and what he wanted to see more of from some of his fellow parliamentarians. They also discussed parliamentary democracy, the work of the Shadow Justice team and the rise of Reform UK (clarifying the "Defection Watch" story that had been doing the media rounds in the days leading up to the event).
