9TH JUNE 2025: 7PM : ONLINE WITH RT HON CHRIS PHILP MP

THIS EVENT HAS ENDED: WATCH RECORDING HERE

PopConversations is a series of online conversations with leading figures who are shaping UK conservative thinking.

On Monday 9th June at 7pm we were delighted to host Shadow Home Secretary Rt Hon Chris Philp MP. Chris is the Member of Parliament for Croydon South, a seat he has held since 2015. During his ten years in Parliament, he has held numerous government roles including Chief Secretary to the Treasury and Minister of State for Crime, Policing and Fire.

Chris is a successful entrepreneur, and sees businesses as key to improving the lives of Britons, setting up the Next Big Thing charity in 2009 which encourages and supports young people to start businesses.

Mark Littlewood asked him about the future of the right in Britain and how the Conservatives can regain the trust of the electorate on the key issues on the political agenda. What will the Conservatives do in office to reverse the two-tier approach to policing that has taken hold in many forces across the country? How can a future government make civil servants focus on delivering for taxpayers instead of engaging in woke virtue-signalling? Is the Home Office simply no longer fit for purpose?

Naturally, the most politically explosive part of Chris’s brief is migration. With Britain facing, as Chris said in the House of Commons, “high levels of immigration” without “proper integration”, how can the evolving Conservative immigration policy convince those voters that the Party has lost to Reform that the Party has changed? This live conversation was an exploration of Conservative values, principles and policies, how they got lost and how they can be restored.
