DANNY KRUGER: THE UK NEEDS RADICAL RESTORATION

"to drag it back to being a well governed and functioning country"

15th September 2025 : Sitting Conservative MP, Danny Kruger, defects to Reform. What are the key takeways?

Behind the mainstream media's focus on the statement Danny Kruger made at this week's press conference announcing his defection - that "the Conservative Party is over" - what caught our eye was far more interesting, and dare we say it, profound.

In the speech Kruger took time to explain what his new role of 'preparing for government' might entail.

Reform UK needs to be “radical…not revolutionary” he said. The UK needs “radical restoration” to drag it back to being a well governed and functioning country and that means limited government, accountable power, a strong society, and a state that works in the interests of the people.

He also vowed to undertake “change on a scale that the system has not seen since the modern civil service was created in the 19th century”.

In a follow-up interview on GB NEWS [see from 7:31 into the interview] on the 16th September he expanded on this:

"...If we want an English revolution – which is fundamentally one of restoration, one of bringing back the systems which used to work, used to make parliament sovereign... that’s the restoration that we need..

“... we do need to restore the foundations of our politics and frankly dismantle the modern progressive super-structure, the bureaucracy, that is stifling enterprise and inhibiting community life…

“... I would have a smaller, more efficient... civil service accountable to ministers… I would scrap a whole lot of the quangos – the bureaucratic agencies that have taken power away from parliament.. so when you elect a new government you know the ministers that are standing up in parliament, speaking for the government, are genuinely in charge...”

POPCON SAYS: This is almost the exact message (and precise phraseology in places) that Dr David Starkey and Mark Littlewood have been spreading far and wide across the airwaves and at events right across the country. It is both pleasing and important that another thoughtful political figure has heard and embraced Dr Starkey's and PopCon's message.
