POPCON PRESS RELEASE: TORY MEMBERS CALL FOR SWIFT AND DECISIVE ACTION ON THE ECHR AND NET ZERO

PopCon has today published the results of its latest Opinion Panel Survey.

Press release: 8th June 2025

Conservative respondents to Popular Conservatism's latest opinion survey want a big shake up in the party, with 92% thinking it necessary; however, 60% of our panellists rate Kemi Badenoch's performance five out of ten or higher.

Alongside wanting internal party structures transformed, with more power devolved the membership and associations (92%), the hundreds of Tories who shared their opinion also desperately want the Conservative Party to move faster and more decisively on setting out policy positions on key issues (86%).

From commitments to cut swathes of quangos (95%) and dramatically reduce the number of civil servants (93%) to repealing the ECHR (91%) and abandoning net zero targets (93%), the membership wants unambiguous policies on which to campaign.

While nearly half of respondents (48%) think Nigel Farage is more likely to win the next election than the Tories (23%), only 15% want to continue slugging it out with Reform UK, compared to 80% who want some form of amicable relationship with Reform, about half of which want that relationship to be formal.

Mark Littlewood, Director of Popular Conservatism, said:

"The message to the leadership of the Conservative Party is clear. Tory voters support the direction the party under Kemi Badenoch is taking, but demand swift and decisive action on major policies and party reform in order to avoid oblivion."
